WEST WINDSOR TWP., N.J. -- Authorities say a New Jersey goose hunter, who was out with his father, died after he accidentally shot himself in the head and neck.
The accident occurred around 4:15 p.m. Saturday in a wooded area of West Windsor.
Earlier reports indicated the older man had accidentally shot his son. But police say the man was killed when his own gun discharged.
The victim, identified only as a 45-year-old Chesterfield man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The father apparently was not injured.
Further details on how the shooting occurred have not been disclosed.
Authorities say the two men were hunting by themselves and had Canada goose decoys spread out in front of their blind.
Both men were properly licensed to hunt the birds.
