EDGEWATER PARK, N.J. (WPVI) -- A teenager from Edgewater Park, New Jersey, is sharing the cover of a national magazine with First Lady Michelle Obama.

Zaniya Lewis was one of the teenagers to win Seventeen magazine's essay contest.

It was initiated by Michelle Obama's "Better Make Room" campaign, which encourages students to work hard in high school and college.

Lewis wrote about the obstacles she has overcome to have success at Doane Academy.

Lewis along with the other winner got to go to the White House and interview the first lady for the magazine.

"Just going to the White House, I just couldn't believe it," said Lewis. "And meeting the first lady, she was just so fun, inspiring, she was happy to see us, and she really gave us so much advice," said Lewis.

Lewis plans to attend college for political science.
