A Canadian police officer held a sign at a busy intersection and posed as panhandler to catch distracted drivers.

At first glance drivers thought perhaps he was someone down on his luck panhandling for cash.

But Corporal Mark Taylor of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police says he was on a plainclothes mission to bust drivers breaking the law.

He held up a sign reading: "I am not homeless. Police looking for seat belts and cell phones.

Taylor would peek in cars and find offenders then radio to his colleagues around the corner in order to tell them which cars to stop.

He helped hand out 11 tickets in one hour, which he considers a successful day.
