Officer in pursuit of shooter fires at dog

NORTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A police officer in pursuit of a suspected shooter fired at a pit bull in North Philadelphia.

Police were called to a shooting around 11:20 a.m. Thursday at 4th and Diamond streets.

A 27-year-old male victim was taken to Temple University Hospital for treatment.

The officer pursued the shooting suspect on foot to a vacant lot on the 1900 block of North 7th Street.

That's where the officer was approached by a pit bull.

The officer shot the dog.

The dog is said to be alive and receiving treatment.

The suspect remains on the loose.
