A police officer shot a dog that bit a teenager in Lawncrest.

LAWNCREST (WPVI) -- A 16-year-old boy is in critical condition after being attacked by a pit bull in the Lawncrest section of Philadelphia.

The incident happened in the back of a home on the 200 block of Higbee Street just before 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Police say the dog bit the teen in the face.

Police arrived on the scene and a 2nd district officer shot the dog.

The teen was taken to Einstein Medical Center in critical condition.

The dog survived the shot.
