Police: Boy charged after accidentally shooting self, girl in South Philadelphia

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A 13-year-old boy is being charged with aggravated assault and other offenses after a shooting that sent both himself and an 11-year-old girl to the hospital.

It happened at 8:40 p.m. Monday at a home along the 2100 block of South Etting Terrace in South Philadelphia.

Police tell Action News the boy was in a room waving a silver-colored handgun when the gun went off.

The bullet went through his left hand and struck the knee of an 11-year-old girl who was also in the room.

A third child in the room was not hurt.

Police say the boy ran from the house after the gun went off.

He rushed by a private vehicle to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he was listed in stable condition.

The girl was transported by medics to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, also with stable vital signs.

The boy has been charged with Aggravated Assault, Violation Uniform Firearms Act, Simple Assault, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, and related offenses.
