NEWARK, Del. -- Delaware state police say an 18-year-old man led police on a chase in a stolen car before crashing.

The pursuit began early Sunday morning, just after midnight. Police say a trooper had responded to an unrelated crash when the car went through an intersection. The trooper ran the car's tags and saw that it had been reported stolen earlier this month.

The trooper tried to pull over the driver, who sped away. Police say the pursuit continued until the car hit a curb and couldn't go any further.

Police have identified the driver as 18-year-old Michael Gordon of Newark.

He faces numerous charges including receiving stolen property and resisting arrest.

Police say there were also two passengers in the car. They fled and haven't been identified.
