Police identify man struck, killed by SUV in Delaware

A man is in critical condition after being hit by an SUV in Mill Creek, Delaware.

MILL CREEK, Del. (WPVI) -- Authorities have identified a man who was struck and killed by an SUV in Mill Creek, Delaware early Wednesday.

The accident happened at 12:05 a.m. on Kirkwood Highway near Woodmill Drive.

Police say 49-year-old Rodolfo Ramirez-Lopez of Newark was trying to cross the street when he was hit by a black 2010 Mercedes M350 that was traveling in the westbound lanes.

Ramirez-Lopez was taken to the hospital with multiple injuries and later died.

The driver of the striking vehicle stopped near the scene.

Police say Ramirez-Lopez was not crossing the roadway at a designated crosswalk.

Police say alcohol use on the part of the victim is being considered as a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation, but charges are not expected to be filed against the driver.
