Police: Man shot, burned in Bridesburg possibly tortured. Vernon Odom reports during Action News at 4:30pm on July 10, 2017.

BRIDESBURG (WPVI) -- Police say the man who was murdered in a gruesome fashion over the weekend in the Bridesburg section of Philadelphia may have been tortured before being killed.

Officers were called out to the scene in the 2900 block of East Orthodox Street around 5:15 a.m. Saturday.

Police tell Action News that workers heard gunshots around 4 a.m. but thought nothing of it because they were in an industrial area.

About an hour later, a trash truck driver pulling into the station saw something burning in the lot.

He took out a fire extinguisher to douse the flames. That's when he noticed it was a man's burning body.

Arriving police and medics discovered that the man had been shot several times. His arms were bound behind him and he had been blindfolded.

Medics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

"We believe he was probably tortured somewhere else and was killed at the scene," said Capt. James Clark.

So far, the man has not been identified. There has been no word on any suspects or arrests.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Philadelphia Police.
