Philadelphia police say the man who was shot and killed on Friday morning in Frankford was trying to break into a pickup truck at the time of the shooting.

FRANKFORD (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police say the man who was shot and killed on Friday morning in Frankford was trying to break into a pickup truck at the time of the shooting.

Investigators say the person who fired was the truck's owner.

The shooting happened around 10:00 p.m. Thursday in the 4500 block of Torresdale Avenue.

While no charges have been filed, police say the owner saw the suspect on a surveillance camera and came out of his home to confront the man.

"He stated that during the course of opening the garage that's when the confrontation ensues being the male and himself and the shooting follows," said Lt. Norman Davenport, Philadelphia Police.

The truck owner could possibly face homicide charges.

"The shooting did occur within the immediate area of his property that's why more facts need to be gathered about the exact location of the shooting as well as the presence of an imminent threat before a final decision can be made on the charges," said Lt. Davenport.

The D.A. is expected to decide on charges sometime next week.

Officers say the owner waited at the scene for officers to arrive.

The victim, a 30-year-old man, was found lying dead behind the pickup truck. He was unarmed.

Police say he had been shot in the back of the head and in the back.

The tuck's owner, identified by police as a 56-year-old man, allegedly handed over a revolver to officers and told investigators he shot the man, but did not say why.

The names of those involved have not been released.

Police are also reviewing video from surveillance cameras located on both sides of a building.

The incident remains under investigation.
