Police: NJ man fatally punches 4-year-old girl

PENNS GROVE, N.J. (WPVI) -- A Penns Grove, New Jersey man was charged in the beating death of a 4-year-old girl in his care.

43-year-old Michael Oliver faces manslaughter, aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

Police were called to the 200 block of South Broad Street in Salem County on Wednesday evening.

The victim, a 4-year-old girl, was found unresponsive.

Police say Oliver punched the child repeatedly in the stomach. She was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

He was watching the child along with three other kids ages 1-5. None of the other children were injured.

Oliver was arrested Thursday. He is being held on $1 million bail.
