Police officer seriously hurt in crash along Route 13 in New Castle County

MINQUADALE, Del. (WPVI) -- A police officer was seriously hurt in a crash along Route 13 in Minquadale, New Castle County.

The accident happened around 3:15 p.m. Friday in the northbound lanes near the Route 295 overpass.

Police say a dump truck ran the unmarked police cruiser off the road and into a guard rail.

The officer was heading back to New Castle County Police Headquarters with a prisoner, police say.

The prisoner was also seriously hurt in the crash.

Both victims were taken to an area hospital to be treated for nonlife-threatening injuries.

Route 13 northbound was temporarily closed in the area of the 295 ramp. It has since been reopened as of 6 p.m.

No arrests have been made.
