Investigators say a man planning to rob a home in rural Berks County was shot dead by the homeowner.

READING, Pa. (WPVI) -- Investigators say a man planning to rob a home in rural Berks County was shot dead by the homeowner.

It happened in the unit block of Long Lane Road in Earl Township on Sunday night.

The body of 52-year-old Robert Stoudt was found on the porch of the residence.

The home's owner, Andre Vernet, told police he'd shot Stout because he feared he was going to be robbed.

Investigators say Stoudt was part of a four person team planning the heist.

The incident is under investigation.
