A paroled sex offender in Huntington, Utah is accused of stealing a school bus and then trying to pick up a child.

HUNTINGDON, Utah (WPVI) -- Police say a convicted sex offender stole a school bus and tried to pick up a child.

Patrick Frederickson, 30, was out on parole and doing landscaping work at a city-owned building in Huntingdon, Utah on Monday.

He allegedly went inside and took a set of keys for the bus along with the driver's list of children to pick up.

Police say Frederickson got behind the wheel tried to convince one child to climb aboard the bus, but the father stepped in.

Frederickson then drove down the road and asked a woman for directions to another child's address but, police say, she reported the incident to Emery County Sheriff's Office.

An officer found the school bus and pulled in front of it to prevent Frederickson from speeding off. Frederickson was arrested at the scene.

Once in jail, officers say he broke a water pipe, flooding his cell and the booking area.

He faces charges of theft of a vehicle, attempted child kidnapping and damaging a jail.
