Police say a would-be robber was shot multiple times by an armed security guard at a Rite Aid pharmacy in Philadelphia's West Oak Lane section.

WEST OAK LANE (WPVI) -- Police say a would-be robber was shot multiple times by an armed security guard at a Rite Aid pharmacy in Philadelphia's West Oak Lane section.

It happened around 8:24 Thursday night in the 8200 block of Stenton Avenue.

Authorities say a man in his 30s was armed with a knife when he entered the store.

The suspect allegedly tried to rob the place but an armed security guard inside opened fire.

The suspect was shot multiple times and rushed to Einstein Medical Center in critical condition.

A knife was recovered at the scene.

Police continue to investigate.
