Purse thief caught on camera in East Oak Lane

Philadelphia police are searching for a thief who was caught on camera stealing a woman's purse from a shopping cart in the city's East Oak Lane neighborhood.

The incident happened on December 11 at 2:30 p.m.

Police say the female victim had accidentally left her purse inside a cart after shopping at the CVS store on the 6600 block of North Broad Street.

The suspect can be seen on surveillance walking past the cart and taking the purse.

He puts it under his jacket and looks around for witnesses before walking to the side of the building.

The thief can be seen taking a peek at the contents of the bag before fleeing the scene.

Inside the black purse was $700 cash and various forms of ID belonging the victim.

The suspect is described as a black male, 40-50 years-old with a dark complexion, stocky build and gray beard. he was wearing a blue baseball cap with a white "NIKE" logo, dark colored hooded jacket and dark colored pants.
