The driver killed in a two-vehicle crash on I-495 in New Castle, Delaware has been identified.

NEW CASTLE, Del. (WPVI) -- The driver killed in a two-vehicle crash on I-495 in New Castle, Delaware has been identified.

The crash happened at 7:06 a.m. Thursday in the southbound lanes just south of Route 13.

The driver of a Chevy Malibu, identified as 35-year-old Wilbert Mable, was traveling northbound.

That's when police say he swerved left and his vehicle went onto the grassy median.

The car crashed, went airborne, and landed on a Chrysler 200.

Mable was trapped in his car and pronounced dead at the scene.

Four other people, including three children, were taken to Christiana Hospital for treatment.

The southbound side of the heavily traveled interstate was shut down for about 3 1/2 hours.

Traffic was detoured off the highway onto Route 13 until I-495 South finally reopened sometime after 10:30 a.m.

Delaware State Police are investigating.
