DOVER, Del. (WPVI) -- Delaware Health Officials say a sick child, who was under observation in Delaware, does not have the Ebola virus.

The Kent County child, who had traveled to West Africa, was brought to the Bayhealth Kent General emergency department on Saturday.

The patient had a low grade fever and mild abdominal pain.

After an initial assessment hospital staff admitted the child to a private isolation out of an abundance of caution.

Because the child was past the 21 day maximum incubation period, the CDC earlier determined that the likelihood of Ebola infection is extremely low and declined to test the child.

State health officials announced Monday Ebola has been ruled out because the child is past the 21 day incubation and did not have contact with anyone with the virus.

The good news is, the child is past the incubation period and is, as of right now, symptom free.

But while there is a sense of relief today, health officials believe we will see more possible cases of Ebola here in the future.

They are also working to educate the community, reminding everyone Ebola is not spread through air - only through direct contact with bodily fluids.
