Social media lit up last night with criticism of the Mummers Parade, reacting to several signs and costumes that were widely viewed as offensive.

One Mummer was seen holding up a sign that read "Wench Lives Matter," a clear play on a the Twitter hashtag #BlackLivesMatter that arose from the deaths of unarmed black men at the hands of police.

Another wore a mask of President Obama and carried a sign that read "Illegal Aliens Allowed," while others dressed as martians danced around him.

The parade's director, Deputy City parks Commissioner Leo Dignam, said the city does not condone distasteful costumes or themes but can't automatically remove those marchers because of concerns surrounding freedom of speech.
