GLOUCESTER CITY, N.J. (WPVI) -- Police say a pregnant woman was killed at the hands of her grown son in Gloucester City, Camden County.

It happened at 9:47 p.m. Sunday at a home in the 600 block of Jersey Avenue.

Police say 21-year-old Leon Wilson got into an argument with his 42-year-old mother Scarlett Wilson.

According to investigators, during the argument the younger Wilson repeatedly stabbed his mother.

Family members tell Action News Scarlett's 8-year-old daughter was home at the time of the attack and saw Leon push her mother to the ground and heard her shout "No!" several times. The child ran into a bedroom, locked the door, and dialed 911.

Police arrived at the home and prosecutors say Leon came out of the house covered in blood with a knife still in his hand. He was taken into custody.

Inside the home police found Scarlett, who had suffered two dozen stab wounds. She was rushed to Cooper University Hospital where doctors were able to save her baby, but she did not survive.

The baby, which was due in early June, is listed in critical condition.

In court Monday it was revealed that Leon Wilson has a history of mental health problems and at least one drug related conviction.

Dozens of family members in the courtroom became very emotional as the prosecutor laid out the facts of the case.

Leon Wilson is now being held on $1 million bail, charged with the murder of his mother. He faces 30 years to life in prison if convicted.
