RADNOR TWP., Pa. (WPVI) -- Investigators with Radnor Township Police and the county have been trying to find the person who fired a stray bullet into the bedroom of a 12-year-old boy.

Zach Marino was asleep in his bed early Thursday morning on the 600 block of Bryn Mawr Avenue when a noise woke him right up.

"It sounded like cracking wood. I took a quick look around and I went back to sleep. That simple," Zach said.

But what his mother would find in his room days later would be enough to give anyone nightmares.

Laura Marino says she first spotted a hole in the wall then she discovered a bullet in the carpet.

"I was shaking. I was scared. I felt like something sort of invaded and encroached upon our home," Laura said.

Marino's husband immediately came outside and found where that bullet struck their home.

He looked around the property for more evidence and spotted what appears to be the original target - a South 320 road sign.

Radnor Township police say someone was firing at the sign on a nearby street filled with homes.

It was a stray bullet that hit the Marino house.

For the past two days, Delaware County detectives searched the area and used a laser to confirm the trajectory.

That bullet went through the wall just three feet from Zach's headboard and even caused damage to a closet door.

"It just seems reckless that people would drive around shooting at street signs. I don't understand the fun in that," Laura said.

Zach was afraid to sleep in his room over the weekend, but now he's back.

And he has some words for that shooter.

"I just want them to know that their reckless actions could have murdered an innocent child," Zach said.

The Marinos say it was Saturday before they discovered that stray bullet and called police because Thursday morning they left for a two-day ski trip.

Investigators believe that bullet possibly came from a .38 caliber weapon.
