NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. -- A Rutgers University student accused of stabbing two people in the lobby of a school dorm has been charged with attempted murder.
University police say Daniel Leandry also faces two counts of aggravated assault and a weapons offense stemming from the attack. It occurred around 6:30 p.m. Friday at Mettler Hall on the College Avenue campus in New Brunswick.
The two victims suffered undisclosed injuries and remained hospitalized Saturday in stable condition.
Authorities say the attack was spurred by a confrontation involving Leandry and the victims, but further details were not disclosed. They said one of the victims is also a Rutgers student.
Leandry, an 18-year-old Garfield resident who lives in the dorm, was found in his room there a short time later. His bail was set at $735,000 and it wasn't known if he has retained an attorney.
