Suspect hospitalized after police officer opens fire in Kensington

KENSINGTON (WPVI) -- One man is hospitalized after a police-involved shooting the Kensington section of Philadelphia.

It happened at 2:45 a.m. Monday at F and Westmoreland Streets.

Police tell Action News officers were chasing a suspect on foot when one of the officers opened fire, hitting the suspect in the leg.

Medics took the man to an area hospital.

There was no immediate word on his condition, or what led to the chase or the gunfire.

The officer has been placed on administrative leave, standard procedure when an officer fires a weapon, as an investigation gets underway.
