University of Delaware football player facing assault charges

NEWARK, Del. (WPVI) -- A University of Delaware football player has been arrested and charged with assaulting three other students after allegedly being asked to leave a party.

It was 11:30 p.m. Saturday when police responded to 10 Center Street due to the report of a large fight inside the apartment complex there.

The three victims told arriving officers that 21-year-old Roman Tatum assaulted them after he was asked to leave a party.

The three victims - all male University of Delaware students, ages 20, 20 and 22 - were hurt in the altercation. Two of the victims suffered minor injuries, and the 22 year-old had his top front teeth dislocated.

Tatum was not on scene when officers arrived.

On Sunday Tatum surrendered to Newark Police. He was charged with Assault 2nd Degree, 2 counts Assault 3rd Degree, Criminal Trespass and Criminal Mischief.

Tatum was released after posting $1,100 secured bond.
