BEAR, Del. (WPVI) -- A quick thinking firefighter jumped into action to rescue a young girl who fell into icy waters in Bear, Delaware.
It happened around 4:00 p.m. at the Meridian Crossing development off Church Road.
The girls, believed to be about 10 years old, were walking on the ice on a semi-frozen pond, when a resident spotted them, and tried to get them to get off - but it was too late. One of the girls fell in.
"She kept walking further and further out and she just went through so I just started screaming for my son-in-law who thank God was home," said Nancy McConnell, witness.
McConnell called her son-in-law, who happens to be a volunteer firefighter and also lives in the complex.
"I had my rescue equipment inside. I ran inside, got my gear, put it on and ran over. As I was running over she was in the water and I made the decision to go in," said Minh Nguyen.
With a rope tied around him and his wife pulling the other end, firefighter Nguyen was able to get the child out.
The girl was transported to Christiana Hospital in stable condition.
