It happened at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday in the northbound lanes of Route 1 at the on-ramp to I-95 North near the Christiana Mall in Newark.

NEWARK, Del. (WPVI) -- Delaware State Police have identified the young woman who was struck and killed by a driver that kept going.

It happened at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday in the northbound lanes of Route 1 at the on-ramp to I-95 North near the Christiana Mall in Newark.

Police say 21-year-old Michelle Rivera of Bear was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rivera was attempting to cross Route 1 in the right lane when she was struck.

According to police, the vehicles involved in the crash did not stay on the scene.

They say the evidence at the scene suggests that one vehicle that hit her was a Volvo S60 sedan or V60 hatchback.

Route 1 North was closed at the scene as the investigation continued.

Delaware State Police are looking for a driver who struck and killed a pedestrian and kept going.
