NEWARK, Del. (WPVI) -- Efforts will soon be underway to help reduce an overpopulation of free roaming cats.

Pet Smart Charities presented a 200-thousand dollar check Wednesday to "Forgotten Cats" to pay to trap, neuter and vaccinate the cats against rabies.

Officials say there are 4 thousand free roaming cats living in Newark, Bear and the city of New Castle.

The state's department of health and social services is hoping this action will improve quality of life by protecting citizens from rabies
