About a dozen stray cats have turned up dead in eastern Pennsylvania and police say they may have been poisoned.

Lower Saucon Township police said Thursday the cats had no signs of trauma and appeared to be in good condition.

Police are investigating whether antifreeze was given to the cats.

Detective Chris Leidy tells the Morning Call that police are concerned someone is "trying to take things into their own hands" to curb the cat population.

Neighbors say stray cats are an issue in the neighborhood.

Resident Maryann Rowe tells WFMZ-TV that she has found nine dead cats in her backyard. She had been feeding them throughout the winter.

Investigators are encouraging residents to call police if they see anything suspicious.
