PHILADELPHIA -- In this week's "Art of Aging" report, Lisa Thomas-Laury tells us about a housing benefit for Pennsylvania's older citizens.

It's called the Property Tax/Rent Rebate program and it's designed to help seniors stay in their homes.

Linda Marucci, a Southwest Senior Center, social worker, helps seniors navigate the paperwork necessary to get the financial assistance.

"Seniors should perceive the property tax rent rebate as a benefit that they are entitled to, that they worked for. This is not a welfare program," said Marucci.

The program is open to Pennsylvanians 65 and older and widowers starting at age 50.

Katherine Carmichael of Philadelphia said, "Had I not come up here, I would probably not have gotten the property tax. I just don't want to lose, want to leave my home.

The deadline for applying for 2013 rebates is June 30th.

Karen Buck, Executive Director; Senior law Center said, "We want them to know that they are not alone, that there are resources. If you have a housing issue, get connected with the help that you need.
