MEDIA, Pa. (WPVI) -- Americans paused on Wednesday to thank and honor the veterans who have bravely served our country.

At the 56th annual Veterans Day Parade in Media it was a day to celebrate their sacrifice, to honor those who served and remember those who didn't come home.

Veterans from all branches and different conflicts came out to Veterans Square to pay their respects to fellow servicemen.

Generations gathered side by side to watch the parade to show support. It's something veterans said they greatly appreciate.

"It shouldn't just be a day. It should be every day," said Army veteran Jack Kennard.

"I just pray for the veterans, those guys over there, that they come home safe," said Navy veteran Eddie Modestowicz.

This year's grand marshal, World War II veteran Eugene Vickers, also celebrated his 100th birthday.

As the flag was rolled out, a sense of patriotism swelled and a hope that the American dream will continue to be passed on.

"It's about the veterans and the services that the veterans did and how they saved our country and stuff," said Rosie Messina.
