The heat is on around the region, and there's plenty of outdoor activities to soak up the sun.

If you enjoy reggae and Caribbean food, boogie boarding at the beach or Bluegrass, Tamala Edwards has some great events for you to take in this weekend.

Wildwood's Boogie Board Races

Head to the shore for the Boogie Board Races. The annual wave riding competition takes place Saturday at 15th Avenue and the beach in North Wildwood. Boys and girls ages 5 through 17 can compete for Most Creative, Longest and Best Overall Ride. Event info and details

Peddler's Village Bluegrass and Blueberries Festival

Peddler's Village in Bucks County celebrates everything blue with the Bluegrass and Blueberries Festival. It features live bluegrass, country entertainment and local blueberries. The event is Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and parking is free. Bluegrass Festival info

Bastille Day celebration at Eastern State Penitentiary

Eastern State Penitentiary celebrates Bastille Day Saturday. The Bearded Ladies, an experimental cabaret troupe, will present the entire French Revolution in an hour-long spectacle of song, dance, and raining Tastykakes. This free performance will begin at 5:30 p.m. Tickets and info

Blobfest in Phoenixville

They will be running from the blob in Phoenixville. The Colonial Theatre hosts a three-day weekend event in commemoration of the original 1958 classic. The re-enactment of the theater running-out sequence is sold out, but there are also screenings of The Blob and other horror classics, competitions and a street fair. Get tickets or donate here
