Brandon McManus' journey to Super Bowl 50

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- In 2007, Brandon McManus had a super moment for North Penn High School.

Eight-and-a-half years, later he's about to kick on a much grander stage.

"I don't think there's words that can describe it, you know, we're just so happy for him," said Susan McManus.

"I'm in shock actually because it's a long journey. The NFL is a very tough business," said Dennis McManus.

For McManus, it was a long road to Super Bowl 50.

Undrafted out of Temple University, despite setting career records for field goals made and punting average, he's been waived by the Colts, traded by the Giants to the Broncos - proof that everything happens for a reason.

"And for him to be the guy now that's really propelled the Broncos into the Super Bowl, we couldn't be more happy," said Temple football coach Matt Rhule.

The same can be said for his high school coach. After all, the school, a football power house, has never even had a player on a NFL roster before.

"I think I've made his skin a little thicker by getting after him at practice," said North Penn football coach Dick Beck. "I don't give him any kicking tips."

North Penn is having a lot of fun with the Super Bowl run. They decided Friday is going to be "Brandon McManus Day," and they sold 1,200 shirts in just a day and a half in honor of the event.

The proceeds will go to Brandon McManus' Anti Bully Squad.

Brandon McManus is pretty pumped about it too. He took some time out of Super Bowl practice, to send the student body a special thank you video.

But his biggest fans, mom and dad, will be there in the stands, decked out in orange and blue from head to toe, and fingernails in between. All in the hopes of celebrating their son's fairy tale ending.

"They'll be two of us on the field doing confetti angels," said Susan McManus, in reference to the photo of dad Dennis doing just that after the AFC Championship.
