SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Zach Ertz is chasing a dream, getting ready for his third season with the Eagles. Ertz wants to score a reputation as the top tight end in football.

"I wanna be the best and I'm not going to settle for anything less than that. That's the goal I've had each and every day since I was a little kid," said Ertz.

"I don't really care where he's rated. I know he's doing a great job for us and he has an unbelievable work ethic," said Coach Chip Kelly.

Ertz believes that if he's going to be the best he should learn from the best.

He sought out future hall of famer and 14 time Pro-Bowl tight end Tony Gonzalez.

The pair had a three hour lunch together a few months ago. Among the things Ertz learned: It's not all about catching touchdowns.

"Tony Gonzalez is obviously the best tight end to ever play game, that's where I want to be when I'm done in hopefully 15 years from now. He was a very good blocking tight end early in his career and I learned that I had to do that in order to be the best," said Ertz.

Ertz says he also learned about the mental side of the game.

Putting up bigger numbers than the 702 yards receiving and three touchdowns from last season, is not how he will measure success.

"I'm never gonna put numbers - the only numbers I truly, truly care about is wins and 16-0 is the goal for us," he said.

And for that to happen, Ertz will have to be the best.
