Every time they suit up, they honor one of their own.

VOORHEES, N.J. (WPVI) -- Every time they suit up, they honor one of their own.

The Eastern High School girls' basketball team is sporting the initials 'NB' on their warm-up jerseys to honor a 1993 grad and former star player.

Nicole Born, a 40-year-old mother of two, suddenly died in early January from rare complications after coming down with the flu.

"It's very important that we keep her in our hearts and let her know that she's still here with us," captain Emily Fendrick said.

Kristen Przybylski, Born's friend and former teammate, is now the Vikings' assistant coach.

"I can't believe that this has happened, and to her, an athlete and someone who was healthy," Przybylski said.

Przybylski was among those who came up with the idea for the team to wear 'NB' on their left sleeve.

"When I see it on their sleeve, I get filled with pride. I'm so happy the kids stepped up and did that for her and her family," Przybylski said.

Nicole's grieving family, so appreciative of this gesture, wanted to see it with their own eyes. They were on hand for a game last week and Nicole's father Gary addressed the team.

"For what you did, you know don't know what that means to us. To think about Nicole, be able to go out and do something like this, it just speaks volumes," Gary said.

This is a tribute to one of the greatest athletes in Eastern High School's history, who was inducted into the school's hall of fame in 2002.

Nicole Born's memory lives on through these girls and this team.
