ESPN sources: Philadelphia leads field to host 2017 NFL Draft

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The NFL Draft may be headed back to Philadelphia.

Sources tell ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that Philadelphia is the leading candidate to host the 2017 NFL Draft.

Philadelphia has hosted the NFL Draft many times in the past, but not since 1960 at the Warwick Hotel.

The other city in contention, according to Schefter, is Los Angeles.

Neither city has a pick in the first round.

The Eagles recently traded their first pick of next year's draft to the Cleveland Browns for the second overall pick in this year's draft.

In exchange for the second pick, the Eagles agreed to send the following to the Browns:

- 2016 first-round pick (No. 8 overall)

- 2016 third-round pick (No. 77 overall)

- 2016 fourth-round pick (No. 100 overall)

- 2017 first-round pick and a 2018 second-round pick.

The Eagles did acquire a 2017 fourth-round pick in the deal.

It is not clear right now who the Eagles want in this year's draft, which begins Thursday night in Chicago. The thought is that the Los Angeles Rams, who hold the top pick, will take Cal QB Jared Goff, leaving the Eagles with North Dakota State's Carson Wentz.

Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford's agent, Tom Condon, told ESPN on Tuesday that the Eagles did not tell Bradford they had a plan to draft a quarterback high in the first round, to relinquish so many valuable draft picks in a mega-trade to move up to No. 2 and essentially make Bradford a lame duck starter.

"As they were making this plan, it would have been nice if they had told him about it," said Condon, who said that he re-iterated to Eagles vice president of football operations Howie Roseman in a recent phone conversation that Bradford wants out of Philadelphia.

"It's his right to demand a trade and he wants to be traded," said Condon.

The Rams, the other possible contender to host the 2017 NFL Draft, will not have a first round pick either next year due to their trade with the Tennessee Titans this year.

The Rams received the Titans' first-overall 2016 pick, a fourth-round 2016 pick, and a sixth-round 2016 pick.

The Titans got the Rams' first-round 2016 pick, two second-round 2016 picks, a third-round 2016 pick, a first-round 2017 pick, and another third-round 2017 pick.
