With Jimmy Rollins pushed out the door and now in Dodger blue, it opens the door for one of the Phillies' top prospects, 2013 1st round pick JP Crawford.
He is the heir apparent to Rollins at shortstop.
"He's probably going to go down in history as one of the greatest shortstops in this organization. It's a challenge for me to be as good as him," Crawford said.
Crawford says he doesn't feel the pressure to live up to one of the most iconic players in team history.
To help ease the transition, JRoll has even given Crawford advice for the day he will finally put on a Phillies hat.
"When you get up here, Philly has a passionate group of fans so always run hard, always hustle, you'll have great career here," Crawford said.
So when will Phillies fan see Crawford take the field at Citizens Bank Park?
It may be a few years. He's only 20 years old and he's never played above the Single-A baseball in his two years in the minor leagues.
The Phillies shortstop of the future has a lot of work to do.
"I got to have work even harder. It's an open spot, but wherever I go, I have to work. Whenever my time comes, it comes," Crawford said.
The hard work has already paid off.
He was named their top minor league position player last year; Crawford led all Phillies shortstop prospects with 11 homers, 48 runs batted in, and 24 steals, while hitting .285 for both Clearwater and Lakewood.
