Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Cesar Hernandez has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with a left oblique strain.

The Phillies announced the move before Sunday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. Reliever Joaquin Benoit was activated from the DL in a corresponding roster move.

Phillies manager Pete Mackanin said Hernandez suffered the injury while making a throw in Friday's game against the Cardinals.

Hernandez, 27, is batting .277 with five home runs and a team-leading 40 runs scored as the Phillies' leadoff hitter this season.
