Phillies sign Odubel Herrera to 5-year deal through 2021

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The Philadelphia Phillies have signed center fielder Odubel Herrera to a five-year contract through the 2021 season, the team announced Thursday.

The deal also includes club options for the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

Herrera, 24, batted .286 this past season with 21 doubles, six triples, 15 home runs, 87 runs scored and 25 stolen bases while also being selected to the National League All-Star team. He led all NL center fielders in games (155) and ranked second in hits (164), runs (84) and assists (11), third in walks (63), total bases (242) and on-base percentage (.360) and fourth in batting average (.285).

Herrera was acquired by the Phillies via the 2014 Rule 5 Draft from the Texas Rangers.
