Stephen Curry matches NBA record with 3 in 127th consecutive game
MIAMI -- Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors has tied an NBA record, making a 3-pointer in his 127th consecutive regular-season game.
Curry, the reigning NBA MVP, made a 3-pointer on his first shot of the evening just 78 seconds into the Warriors' 118-112 win overMiamion Wednesday night. He shares the markwithAtlanta's Kyle Korver and has a chance to take the record outright when Golden State plays atOrlandoon Thursday. Dana Barros' streak of 89 games was the league record prior to Korver's and remains third best, according to ESPN Stats & Information.
Curry added five more from beyond the arc en route to a 42-point night on 14-for-29 shooting. He pulled ahead ofJames Hardenfor the league lead with his ninth 40-point game this season.
"That's a pretty outrageous number, I think," Curry said before Wednesday's game. "When I was talking about it last year, I knew where he was. I think I was at 40 or 45. And I remember hearing what his number was. That's crazy. Every night you're hitting a 3. Whether you're shooting well or not, you're still finding a way to knock down at least one. The longevity of that record is pretty remarkable."
Curry's last game without a 3-pointer was Nov. 11, 2014. He has made at least one in 202 of his past 203 games and is on pace to smash the single-season record for 3-pointers he established a year ago.
"Steph is a lot better," Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. "Which is scary, because he was the MVP last season."
Curry, who led the NBA last season with 286 3-pointers, entered Wednesday with 260 3-pointers this season, 88 more than anyone in the league. Teammate Klay Thompson came into the night No. 2 this season in 3s, with 172. Thompson finished with four 3s against Miami on eight attempts and racked up 33 points of his own, including 15 straight during one stretch in the fourth quarter.
Curry said he finds significance in the mark.
"There's no trophy for that," Curry said. "But it's a really cool situation to be in. That's a big part of my game."
