A security company in California says it's found the first known case of a malware attack on an Apple computer.

PALO ALTO, Calif. -- A security company in California says it's found the first known case of a malware attack on an Apple computer.

Palo Alto Networks says it found a Ransomware program on its Mac systems last Friday.

The software hijacks computers and locks out users until they pay a ransom.

The specific program in question requires victims to pay one bitcoin, or roughly $400 dollars, to retrieve their files.

The company said it reported the problem to Apple, which took steps to protect users.
