Police say 1 person was killed in the crash on Route 55 in Franklinville, N.J.

FRANKLINVILLE, N.J. (WPVI) -- Action News has learned that six people were inside a van when it crashed in Gloucester County this morning, killing one person.

The accident happened at 6:15 a.m. Tuesday on northbound Route 55 in Franklinville near Route 40.

Police say the driver of the van lost control and crashed in a wooded area next to the highway.

3 people were trapped in the vehicle.

Emergency responders found two others outside of the vehicle when they arrived.

It was not clear if those people were ejected on impact or left the van under their own power after the crash.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene.

June 3, 2014: First responders were on the scene after a van crashed along northbound Route 55 near Route 40 in Franklinville, Gloucester County.

A number of victims were airlifted to an area hospital. There was no immediate word on their conditions.

All northbound lanes of Route 55 were blocked at the scene as medics treated the injured and crews worked to clear the wreckage.
