Driver killed after car hits 2 trees on Roosevelt Boulevard in Northeast Philadelphia

Police say a 40-year-old man is dead after his car slammed into a tree in Northeast Philadelphia.

NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Police say a 40-year-old man has died after his car hit 2 trees in Northeast Philadelphia.

The crash happened around 4:15 a.m. on the 7700 block of Roosevelt Boulevard near Ryan Avenue.

According to police, the driver lost control, hit a tree, and then ricocheted off another tree before coming to a stop.

They believe the victim was driving at a high rate of speed in the northbound lanes when the crash occurred.

The driver was trapped and had to be extricated from the vehicle.

Medics took him to Aria-Torresdale hospital, where he pronounced dead a short time later.

His name was being withheld pending notification of family members.

The inner northbound lanes of the boulevard were shut down as police investigated and crews worked to clear the wreckage.
