ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (WPVI) -- Police in Atlantic City are looking for the driver of a vehicle that struck a man on Saturday night.

35-year-old Juan Melton of Pleasantville was crossing over the concrete median in the 1400 block of Absecon Boulevard, also known as Route 30, when he was hit.

He was found unconscious on the side of the road around 10:30 p.m.

Investigators say Melton was wearing dark clothing at the time, and the driver may not even have known they hit a person.

"It wasn't a full frontal impact. The pedestrian was either on the driver side door or already made it halfway across the street, and the passenger side mirror could have clipped the pedestrian," said Ptl. David Trivers.

Police are working to find the car model from a mirror found on the scene, but it has no serial number or other information. There are security cameras on a building near the scene, but they were not pointed toward the area of the crash.

Although Melton had no ID on him at the time, when investigators went back to the scene they found a paper with his name on it.

He's in stable condition at Atlantic City Medical Center after having surgery to his arm.

Authorities are asking the driver or any witnesses to come forward.

"We just want to get the full story of this, and get this squared away," Trivers said.

Police say that same area has been the scene of a number of accidents involving pedestrians because people jump over the median.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Atlantic City police.
