WILMINGTON, Del. (WPVI) -- Police are looking for the driver who struck and killed a man early Wednesday morning in Wilmington, Delaware.
It happened around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday on the 100 block of West 28th Street.
Investigators say the victim, 47-year-old Dwayne Wisher, was trying to cross in the middle of the block when he was hit.
The driver kept going.
Wisher was treated on the scene and then rushed to Christiana Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Shirley Wisher says she simply cannot believe her son, affectionately known as "Spud," is gone.
"He like to go out every day and meet friends," she said, but couldn't continue. "I just can't talk right now," she said.
Members of his family gathered to create a memorial at the location where Wisher was hit. He was remembered as a kind and friendly man who loved to laugh.
"I just talked to him yesterday," said his niece, Latasha Wisher. "It's just crazy because I didn't think that would be the last time I'd talk to him."
The vehicle is described as a two door, silver or gray compact car.
Wisher's family has a message for the person responsible.
"We just want to whoever did it to come forward, or if anybody knows who did it to contact police, contact us," said Latasha.
