CHRISTIANA, Del. (WPVI) -- Two people were injured in a four-vehicle crash Wednesday involving a tractor trailer on I-95 southbound.

The crash occurred around 8:09 a.m. near exit 4B, the Churchman Crossing exit.

An investigation revealed Gerald Nichols, 24, of Wilmington was attempting to make a left-hand lane change into the right, center lane when he stuck the side of a vehicle driven by Shawn R. Johns, 51, of Wilmington.

Police said Johns was forced to travel into the center lane where he struck the fuel valves of a tractor trailer, driven by Turon McManus, 30, of Wilmington.

While trying to re-enter the right, center lane, Johns struck another vehicle driven by Loretta Consiglio-Ward, 50, of Wilmington.

Johns and Nichols were transported to Christiana Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police cited Nichols for making an unsafe lane change.

The tractor trailer was damaged and leaking racing fuel, police said. The remaining fuel was transferred to a second fuel tanker that responded to the scene.

Officers from the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control assisted in fuel cleanup efforts.

Lanes were re-opened around 12:30 p.m.
