Police had to surround a cow roaming a New Jersey roadway on Friday morning.

HAMILTON TWP., N.J. (WPVI) -- Animal control officers have ticketed a Trenton slaughterhouse for creating a public nuisance after a cow escaped.

The bovine fled Trenton Halal Packing Company during unloading on Friday and made its way to Interstate 295 after it was shot with a tranquilizer dart. It died shortly after.

Trenton Health Officer James Brownlee tells The Times of Trenton the case will be heard in municipal court.

The company's owner could not be reached for comment.

Video fromAction News viewer Arcadio Rivera showed the cow running in the grassy median.

Viewer Audrey Cooper caught this video of the cow running past her car window.

Moments later, video from Chopper 6 showed the cow surrounded by nearly a dozen police vehicles.

The cow was tied to a guard rail and, soon after, officers were seen struggling to load the cow into a truck.
