WEST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A woman is recovering after falling off a SEPTA platform and onto the tracks Sunday evening.

The incident happened around 5 p.m. along the Market-Frankford Line in West Philadelphia.

A witness says the woman appeared to lose her balance, then she fell and hit her head.

"I was just hoping and praying to God that she wasn't going to get hit, and that nothing happened to her," he said.

The nearest train was able to stop before it approached the station.

Firefighters rescued the woman from the tracks.

She was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

She's expected to be okay.
