VIDEO: Savings apps
Whether you're taking a road trip or taking to the skies, these cool concept apps may be able to help save you money.

Many folks are on spring break this week and that got us thinking about ways to save on travel and transportation.

Whether you're taking a road trip or taking to the skies this spring or summer, these cool concepts may be able to help.

We have found two companies that claim they can save travelers lots of money.

FlightCar is a car-sharing company that operates out of airports across the United States.

Outbound travelers get free airport parking and a chance to pocket extra cash by renting out their car to other travelers while they're away.

Folks looking to rent cars from the airport get a deal, too.

Flightcar says rentals through its company are always less than rates of traditional rental car companies.

FlightCar says it checks the driving histories of all drivers but accidents can happen.

That's why FlightCar insures every car for $1 million dollars.

FlightCar offers 24-hour nationwide roadside assistance and even promises to clean your car after it's turned back in.

Roadie is a way people already road-tripping can save money on gas!

It's an app-based shipping network that takes advantage of miles people are driving anyway to help get items where they need to be.

When you have something to send, Roadie will connect you to a driver who will pick up your stuff and get it to where you need to be.

By signing up to be one of those drivers, you can make $8 to $20 for local gigs and up to $200 for long-distance jobs.

Roadies browse for gigs based on location, size, and sender ratings.

Of course, drivers are reviewed as well and must apply, pass a background check and scan and submit their driver's license before being accepted.
