Police investigate explosion inside RV in Northeast Philadelphia

Fire crews arrived to the scene and discovered a 36-year-old female had been cooking inside the RV when the propane tank exploded.

NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Police are investigating an explosion that happened inside a recreational vehicle (RV) in Northeast Philadelphia Saturday.

The incident happened shortly before 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of East Cheltenham Avenue and Oakland Street.

Police say they received reports of an RV on fire with one person trapped.

Fire crews arrived to the scene and discovered a 36-year-old female had been cooking inside the RV when the propane tank exploded.

Crews quickly extinguished the fire and deemed no further threats.

The victim was taken to Temple University Hospital with severe burns to both legs and hands,

She is listed in critical but stable condition.

A five-year-old suffered minor scrapes on both legs but was not taken to the hospital.

Police say two other people inside the RV were not hurt.

The bomb squad was notified of the situation.
