AccuWeather Alert: Parts of Philadelphia region bracing for heavy snow

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A Winter Storm Warning and Winter Weather Advisory go into effect very early Monday morning as parts of the region brace for heavy snow.

Here are the snow arrival times:

Central Delaware & South Jersey: 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. By the morning rush there may already be 2-3" on the ground

Philly Metro Area: 4 a.m. to 6 a.m., by the morning rush we could have around 1" on the ground

Lehigh & NW Suburbs: 6 a.m. to 8 a.m., a coating of snow is possible by the morning rush

Snow will move southwest to northeast with the steadiest period being during the morning. After lunchtime, drier air will start to work in, especially for areas NW of the city.

The morning commute is most impacted if we're looking at things from a region perspective. By the afternoon commute, conditions will be improving northwest. However, around the city and points on south still expect a slow evening rush especially if road crews are slow to clear snow.

We'll have one last push of energy between 8 p.m. to 12 p.m., which will bring some additional snow showers to the Delaware Valley and areas south. This shouldn't amount to much additional accumulation. But temperatures will be below freezing so slippery roads and walkways are still possible.

TUESDAY: Behind Monday's storm it's a windy day with 40mph gusts possible. This will keep wind chills in the teens throughout the day. Any snow on the ground will blow which could make for reduced visibility and slick sidewalks, roads and driveways. It's a sunny day, but unseasonably cold, high 32.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny, windy and cold, high 32. Wind chill values will be in the teens.

THURSDAY: Morning wind chills start off in the single digits! It's another cold and windy day with partly sunny skies, high 31. Wind chill values stay in the teens during the day.

FRIDAY: After several windy days, it finally starts to ease. Clouds mix with sun, high 36.

SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy with a storm nearby, high 35.

SUNDAY: Partly sunny and still chilly, high 37.
